At Happy Valley East School in San Tan Valley, Arizona, something magical happened over the past nine weeks. In Mrs. Vega’s classroom, a group of young students came together after school each week for one hour to participate in the KIDS Kindness Club, a program that fostered compassion, empathy, and a strong sense of community.
This after-school program focused on a simple yet powerful mission: to teach children the value of giving back while cultivating kindness in their daily lives. Each week, the club chose a different group of people to give back to, combining creativity with heartfelt service.
Weekly Activities: Acts of Kindness in Action
From crafting to collaborating, the students embraced each session with enthusiasm. Here are some highlights of their meaningful projects:
Kindness Flowers
To kick off the program, the children created beautiful “Kindness Flowers.” Each petal featured a word or phrase of kindness. These flowers went home as a reminder for the kids to plant seeds of kindness wherever they go.

Thanking School Staff
The students decorated vases using colorful tissue paper and filled them with fresh flowers. These were gifted to teachers and staff members at the school, along with handwritten thank-you notes, to express appreciation for their hard work and dedication.
Teamwork and Fun
The group made slime in small teams, learning the importance of working together. They capped the session with a relay race, balancing marshmallow pumpkins on popsicle sticks, reinforcing teamwork and perseverance.
Helping the Unsheltered
The kids wrapped soap bars with yarn, creating exfoliating bars for unsheltered individuals. This hands-on activity not only provided a practical gift but also sparked conversations about the importance of helping those in need.
Spreading Cheer to Seniors
One week focused on creating cheerful cards and decorations for local seniors. The kids poured their creativity into crafting messages of love and hope, which brought smiles to faces in senior living communities.

A Cohesive Community of Kindness
Over the nine weeks, the children didn’t just complete projects—they transformed into a tight-knit group of kind and caring individuals. Shy students began to open up, while others took on leadership roles, ensuring everyone felt included and valued.
Friendships blossomed as the kids shared stories, laughter, and their passion for making a difference. Each week, they looked forward to their time together, excited not just for the activities but also for the camaraderie and shared purpose.
The Lasting Impact
As the program concluded, it was clear that the seeds of kindness planted in those nine weeks would continue to grow. Parents shared stories of their children practicing kindness at home, from helping siblings to showing gratitude in small but meaningful ways.
The KIDS Kindness Club at Happy Valley East was more than just an after-school program—it was a movement. It reminded us all that when we come together to serve others, we create a ripple effect of positivity that reaches far beyond the walls of a classroom.
We’re excited to see how these young kindness ambassadors will continue to spread joy and compassion in their community and beyond. As they’ve learned, kindness truly is magical—the more you give, the more you get.
Stay tuned for more KIDS Kindness Club stories and opportunities to get involved. Together, we can make the world a kinder place, one small act at a time.
